Ambassador Yu Dunhai Meets with Chairperson of Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the Parliament

On 11th August 2022, H.E. Ambassador Yu Dunhai met with Hon. Glenn Bedingfield, Chairperson of Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the Parliament.

Ambassador Yu said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Malta have always respected each other and treated each other as equals. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malta. President Xi Jinping had a warm phone call with President George Vella, charting the course for the future development of bilateral ties. President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from the teacher and students of the China Corner at St. Margaret College Secondary School, leaving a much-told tale in the history of China-Malta friendship. China is ready to take this opportunity to continue deepening exchanges in the legislatures, political parties and other fields between China and Malta, promoting bilateral relations to a new high. Ambassador Yu elaborated on China’s principled position on the Taiwan question and Xinjiang-related issues.

Mr Bedingfield recalled the history of China’s assistance in constructing the dry dock in Malta. He said that Malta and China are friends in adversity, and China provided selfless support to Malta during its most challenging time. The Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the Parliament will support the positive development of Malta-China relations and is ready to take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen exchanges and cooperation.
