On October 4, Charge d'Affaires Peng Yijun and the Hon. Prime Minister Dr Robert Abela attended the Ceremony celebrating the groundbreaking of the first bluefin tuna joint venture platform 2024 between China and Malta and delivered speeches. The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights of Malta, Dr Anton Refalo, chairman of Malta Fish Farming, Mr Salvu Ellul and business circle guests from both countries were presented.

In his speech, Chargé d'Affaires Peng spoke highly of the significance of the establishment of the platform and said that China-Malta economic and trade cooperation has great potential. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will create new opportunities for win-win cooperation between the two countries. He looked forward to both sides strengthening strategic docking and cooperation so as to create new highlight fruits between China and Malta under the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the development of bilateral relations.

Hon. Prime Minister Dr Abela reviewed the history of the China-Malta friendship in his speech. He commended the establishment of the platform as a milestone of cooperation between the two countries. He thanked the Chinese Embassy in Malta for facilitating this cooperation and looked forward to more practical cooperation between the two sides. Chairman of Malta Fish Farming, Mr Salvu Ellul, said that as a supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative, Malta Fish Farming will ride the wind and waves to bring Malta's highest quality bluefin tuna products to the Chinese consumers’ table.
