Charge d'Affaires Peng Yijun Attends the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Confucius Institute of the University of Malta

On November 4, Mr. Peng Yijun, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Malta, attended the 15th anniversary celebration of the Confucius Institute of the University of Malta and delivered a speech. Around 400 people attended the ceremony, including Prof. Frank Bezzina, Pro-Rector of the University of Malta, Prof. Shi Dalin, Vice President of Xiamen University, Prof. Nie Aixia and Prof. Dennis Mizzi, Directors of the Confucius Institute, teachers and students from local primary and secondary schools, and people from various sectors in Malta.

Mr. Peng said that the establishment of the Confucius Institute of the University of Malta was an important achievement of the visit of then Vice President Xi Jinping to Malta. Over the past 15 years, it has opened a door for the young people in Malta to learn Chinese language and culture and understand the real China. He hoped that the Confucius Institute would continue to promote the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and the Maltese people, and make greater contributions to promoting educational cooperation between China and Malta and friendship between the two countries.

Prof. Bezzina highly commended the important role played by the Confucius Institute in promoting cultural exchanges and helping the younger generation master language skills. The University would continue to support the development of the Confucius Institute and play a bridging role in the friendship between the two peoples.

Students from the University of Malta and primary and secondary schools performed Chinese songs, poetry recitation, diabolo, Chinese Kung Fu, dragon and lion dances, etc.
