On March 2, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted a thematic exchange meeting on "Advancing the High-Level Development of China-Malta Relations." Ambassador Zhang Zuo attended the event and delivered remarks. Over 40 guests were present, including Mr. Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta; Mr. Sharlo Camilleri, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights; representatives from various sectors; and Ms. Fiona Li, Deputy Representative of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels.
Ambassador Zhang pointed out that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China looks forward to working with Malta to uphold equality to consolidate the "stabilizer" of political mutual trust; adhere to open development to activate the "new engine" of win-win cooperation; promote mutual learning between civilizations to build the "bridge of affinity" for people-to-people ties; and champion global solidarity to pool "positive energy" for global governance, so as to jointly advance the high-level development of China-Malta relations.
Permanent Secretary Cutajar briefed the attendees on his visit to China for the bilateral diplomatic consultations and the Joint Economic and Trade Commission. He noted that the economic and trade ties between the two countries are growing increasingly close, and that practical cooperation enjoys broad prospects.
Deputy Representative Fiona Li gave an overview of Hong Kong's economic situation and its unique advantages for cooperation with Malta.
Ten guests delivered remarks successively, sharing their views on China-Malta relations in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
