On February 25, 2026, Ambassador Zhang Zuo met with Mr. John Zeffara, founder of Malta-based logistics company Freightzone. The two sides held in-depth discussions on China–Malta economic and trade cooperation and other related topics.

Ambassador Zhang noted that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan will bring significant new opportunities for the development of China–Malta relations. At present, bilateral relations maintain strong momentum, with broad prospects for cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, green development, the blue economy, tourism, and health and wellness industries. Ambassador Zhang spoke highly of Freightzone’s professional service standards and expressed willingness to support enterprises from both countries in pursuing two-way engagement and expanding the “cake” of mutually beneficial cooperation. He also expressed hope that more Maltese friends who understand and support China will play a bridging role in deepening people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding, and injecting fresh vitality into the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

Mr. Zeffara shared his experiences of working and living in China, stating that he had personally felt the dynamism of China’s economic and social development. He expressed his willingness to continue leveraging his strengths to promote greater understanding of China across Maltese society and to contribute to friendly exchanges between the two countries.
