On March 9, 2026, Ambassador Zhang Zuo met with President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at the Malta Trust Foundation. They exchanged views on people-to-people friendship and cultural exchanges between China and Malta. 

Ambassador Zhang stated that the continuous development of China-Malta relations over the past five decades, and the enduring friendship between the two countries, are attributed to the friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples. China is ready to further expand cooperation with Malta in areas such as youth education exchanges and social charity etc. 

Preka commended Malta's relations with China, hoping to further explore the cooperation in areas such as welfare for disabled children and music and art education, with Chinese culture as a bridge.
