Recently, the Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted a symposium for the overseas Chinese community on opposing Taiwan separatists’ activities and promoting reunification of China. Counsellor Peng Yijuan briefed representatives on how the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities of Taiwan have colluded with external forces and continued provocations for dividing China in recent years. He reviewed the historical context of the Taiwan question and pointed out the one-China principle has become a universal consensus in the international community and has been supported by more than 180 countries, including Malta. The DPP authorities’ attempt to colluding with external forces to resist reunification will never succeed.

Overseas Chinese representatives said that Taiwan has been an integral part of China's territory since ancient times. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are descendants of the same root and origin, and Taiwan will eventually return to the motherland. The DPP authorities do not represent the people’s will, and the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces will eventually be unmasked and abandoned by the international community. The overseas Chinese in Malta resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, firmly support China's just cause of peaceful reunification, and will make joint efforts to promoting cross-strait exchanges and cooperation and make due contributions to the peaceful reunification of the motherland.

The representatives also decided that Chinese Communicty Association in Malta will soon issue a joint statement to expound its stances of opposing separatism and supporting reunification.
