On April 29, 2026, Ambassador Zhang Zuo visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Malta and held discussions with representatives of the Institute.

Ambassador Zhang fully recognized the contributions made by the Confucius Institute over the years to China-Malta people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Malta friendship has continued to deepen and mutually beneficial cooperation has kept expanding, placing higher expectations on deepening people-to-people exchanges and broadening educational and cultural cooperation. 

Prof. Aixia Nie, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, and Prof. Dennis Mizzi, Local Director of the Institute, briefed Ambassador Zhang on the Institute's development in recent years. They noted that Chinese has been incorporated into Malta's national education system and was officially included in Malta's Secondary Education Certificate examinations in 2025. Teachers of the Institute also shared their teaching experience.
