On May 13th, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted an open-day event "Encountering and Mutual Learning of Civilizations — China-Malta Youth Exchange." Ambassador Zhang Zuo attended and delivered remarks. Over 80 people attended the event, including Prof. Nie Aixia, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Malta, representatives of Chinese students in Malta, Ms. Stivala, Head of San Anthon School, along with teachers and students from San Anthon School, St. Clare College Pembroke Secondary School and St. Ignatius College.
On the occasion of the upcoming "International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations," Ambassador Zhang encouraged Chinese and Maltese youth to become builders of civilizational progress, guardians of equality among civilizations, promoters of dialogue and communication, and contributors to global solidarity. He called for implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinpin's reply letter to the "Science China Corner" at St. Margaret College, advancing the Global Civilization Initiative, and deepening educational cooperation and youth exchanges between China and Malta so that the seeds of friendship may take root and flourish in the hearts of young people in both countries.
During the event, Chinese and Maltese youth jointly experienced traditional crafts such as floral hairpins, yunjian (traditional shoulder ornaments), clay art, mortise-and-tenon structures, and Luban locks. They also tasted Chinese cuisine, and took part in a knowledge quiz.
