On 26 May 2026, Ambassador Zhang Zuo met with Commissioner for Oaths of Malta’s Legal Aid Agency Catania, and the two sides exchanged views on legal aid and judicial exchanges and cooperation.

Ambassador Zhang noted that China remains committed to advancing law-based governance on all fronts, and has made notable achievements in the development of the rule of law in the new era, with continuous improvements to its public legal services and legal aid system. He said that the Chinese Embassy in Malta stands ready to strengthen ties with Malta’s Legal Aid Agency, deepen exchanges in the field of legal aid, promote judicial cooperation and exchanges between the two sides, effectively safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Malta, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice.

Catania briefed Ambassador Zhang on the work of Malta’s Legal Aid Agency, and expressed willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Malta, actively promote bilateral and multilateral exchanges in the judicial field, and provide necessary legal services for Chinese citizens in Malta in need of assistance.
