On 29 May 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted a symposium themed “Uniting Overseas Chinese for National Rejuvenation and Reunification.” Ambassador Zhang Zuo attended the event and delivered a keynote address. More than 50 representatives of the Chinese community in Malta participated.

Drawing on the recent meeting between President Xi Jinping and Kuomintang Chairperson Zheng Liwen, as well as the latest meeting between the Chinese and U.S. heads of state, Ambassador Zhang elaborated on China’s principled position on the Taiwan question. He stressed the importance of firmly upholding the one-China principle and opposing “Taiwan independence” separatist activities; advancing the peaceful reunification of the motherland and enhancing the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Strait; rallying the strength of overseas Chinese communities in support of national rejuvenation; and safeguarding international fairness and justice while promoting common development and prosperity. Ambassador Zhang expressed the hope that members of the Chinese community in Malta would continue to leverage their unique role as a bridge between China and the wider world, enhance international understanding and support for the one-China principle, and make new contributions to China–Malta friendship and people-to-people exchanges.

Representatives of the Chinese community attending the symposium expressed their continued support for China’s reunification and national rejuvenation and pledged to contribute to the further development of China–Malta friendship.
