On September 8, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Zhang Zuo and Ms. Anna Calleja National Director of Special Olympics Malta met with the Chinese Special Olympics delegation, led by Song Haibing, Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Disabled Persons' Federation, as they arrived  in Malta to participate in the 'Beyond the Waves' European Swimming Open.

H.E. Ambassador Zhang Zuo stated that President Xi Jinping emphasized that "people with disabilities are equal members of the human family." The Chinese delegation, bearing its mission in mind and representing the country, demonstrated its self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance, and independence. By hosting of the Special Olympics event, Malta has shown its commitment to international inclusive development and the common values of all humanity. He hopes that the delegation would abide by the rules, show respect, learn from each other, and make progress together, fostering friendship and building lasting bonds through the Games.

Ms. Calleja welcomed the Chinese delegation and noted the longstanding friendship between China and Malta. She wishes them good performance in the competition.
